Q & A

I copied this from a fellow blogger The Phillips Family

Fill in the blanks....

If I were to get pregnant again...
**I haven't ever been pregnant, but I'm certainly not opposed.  Baby fever is determined to consume me until I am pregnant.

If I could have any job in the world...
**I honestly think I would enjoy a job as an actress

If I had a day to myself...
**I would sleep in for sure

If I could get married all over again...
**I think it would be interesting to renew our vows a loooooong time down the road, but I wouldn't re-do our wedding, I thought it was perfect.

If I could live anywhere in the US...
**Lake Buena Vista, FL - aka Disney World :)

If my girl would have been boy they would have been named...
**Umm...don't have a kid

If I could have any talent in the world...
**A great singing voice

If you met me in real life...
**You would realize I am fatter in person, lol.  I don't know what to say about myself...maybe you would see that I'm really one of a kind.

If I could go back to school and get a different degree...
**I would have to get a degree period first because I don't have one...but I think business and/or accounting

If money was no object...
**I would own stock in Disney, be a member of the Disney Vacation club, have my house paid for, cars paid for, no debt and would donate annually to the Human Society of the United States and the ASPCA.

If I could meet one celebrity, it would be...
**Johnny Depp, I probably wouldn't be able to speak, but to see him in person would be great

If I could shop at only one store the rest of my life...
**Amazon

If we were to get another pet it would be...
**A fish, I'm way too attached to our two cats right now, I just don't think I could purposely become attached to another mammal with a limited time on earth.

If I could go on a trip right now...
**Our first Disney Cruise is just weeks away!

If I had to choose between a house cleaner and a personal chef...
**Hardy is a damn good cook, so a house cleaner would be the winner!!

If I had the option of plastic surgery...
**This is a very interesting question, I don't know...

The Bert Show's BIG THANK YOU

Now is your chance to say thank you to our troops!  The Bert Show is collecting letters of thanks so every single soldier stationed or deployed outside the United States can receive a letter of gratitude on Thanksgiving Day.  We want to give our troops a "Big Thank You" with a little taste of home this Thanksgiving.

In 2007, Bert Show listeners successfully wrote 375,000 letters to troops all over the world!  This year, we need your help to express a BIG THANK YOU to 400,000+ U.S. soldiers.

With less than three weeks left to mail these letters, we need you to start writing your letters now!
Thank you so much for giving our service men and women a little connection to home this Thanksgiving with The Bert Show's Big Thank You.
Letters from the kids are the cutest!

Here are the specs you need to know when writing your letter:

LETTER FORMAT

Each letter should be heartfelt, handwritten, original, and free of any political statements.  The purpose of the letter is to express thanks to the military personnel currently deployed outside the United States.  We reserve the right to eliminate those messages that are political in nature and do not reflect a positive message in the spirit of Thanksgiving.  Those letters will be destroyed.
All letters must be on 8.5" x 11" paper or smaller.  Do not use glue, tape, staples, cardboard, glitter or otherwise attach anything to the paper.  Decorate using crayons, pencil, etc.  Use both sides if you like, but use one page per letter only.  Do not send cards or photographs.  Feel free to include your mailing and email address, and you may get a response.  Individual letters should not be sealed in envelopes. Do not send anything except letters.  We cannot accept donations of any kind, and they should not be included or attached to letters.

Deadline is Friday October 28, 2011.  Visit www.thebertshow.com to find locations you can drop them off at if you don't have time to mail them.

A letter to my brain

Dearest brain,

For so long you have been a great companion of mine.  You've gotten me through 21yrs of life without any issues....mostly.
In 2006 you started taunting me with migraines.  I first thought it was side-effect from having had my wisdom teeth removed...
after all they do hold your jaw open for an extended period of time.  Then they started occurring every other month and eventually became a
big enough nuisance I sought help.  One doctor had me do some motor skill tests and confirmed they were migraines.
Another had an MRI done, but never bothered to call and tell me if it was clear or not. I've been on pill after pill for the treatment
of these pesky migraines...to no avail.  I'm at a loss.  I thought I had them connected to my "cycles", but you continue to
throw me curve balls and I'm having them more frequently and sporadically throughout the month, not just during my period.
WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME?  None of the physicians I've seen have felt alarmed enough to refer me to a neurologist,
but this isn't their head!!  Do I have a brain tumor?  Are my blood vessels too small? I give in, you're pissing me off.

Current score
Brain 500,000,000,000 - Amanda - 0

So I'm asking you, politely, stop this nonsense and let me live a normal and happy life without constant interruption via migraines.
If you do not comply, I will cut you off, yea you heard me.  I am going to borrow a guillotine and slice you right off.

Migraine sufferer since: 2006

Medicines tried: Imitrex, Maxalt and Treximet

Aura: No aura

Frequency: 9 or more in a 60 day period <--- scary number

Details of attacks: Pounding, pulsating, usually occurring on the front/right side of head.

Gold Rush 2011

Well I'm alive, hard to believe considering how long of a day yesterday was!  We got to the haunted house a little after 1pm and didn't leave until 12am this morning - ohhh yea.  We got our float ready and all of us walked from the haunted house ALLLLLLLLL the way to the tail end of the parade line up.  I for sure thought my feet were going to fall off or that my shins would be splitting open at any second, but they didn't.  I survived and tried not to complain too much.

This year our theme was a jazz/New Orleans funeral march and we honored Fluffy.  It was a lot of fun, even though I sat in the middle of the hearse and didn't march.  We had the usual "walking dead" and then jazz musicians who pretended to play the funeral tunes we had blasting.

The songs played during our march were old gospel hymns.  I'm sure the few people who were calling us satanists didn't even realize that.  It's a shame when people aren't open minded.  No one at the haunted house is satanic and what we do isn't satanic.  It's all for fun and entertainment and our proceeds go to charity every.single.year.  While we aren't represented by a church, it doesn't mean we're evil people.

Back to topic....the parade was a success even though we had a small music malfunction right as we got into the heart of the square of Dahlonega.  Our soldiers kept marching onward though clapping and dancing as we marched without a beat (eventually we did get the music back).

The whole point of the theme we chose was to honor our friend Lance who passed away in August.  We had a float with a giant photo of him on it and most probably weren't aware, but we also carried his ashes in a small coffin on the float.  He would be tickled pink to know he got to walk the parade one last time.

I'm letting my limbs re-coop today before another work week...whew.  Who knew at 26 you could be so tired??

Hip Hip Hooray!

In my last post I included a recipe for Nachos that you cook via crock pot.  We actually had those very nachos on Tuesday and HOLY COW, they were delicious.  It's quick, easy and fairly inexpensive to make.  I suggest you all give it a try!!

I started re-reading Breaking Dawn this week to prepare myself for the film on Nov 18th.  I always forget how sweet of a love story it is.  It gets me every time I go back and read the books again.  :)

This weekend I'm projecting non.stop.madness.  It's Gold Rush in Dahlonega and for those of you who have been to or lived in the area - you know this event draws a massive amount of people.  We are generally busy by this time of the month because people associate haunted houses with October and now that we're officially mid-month the numbers increase.  As with every year, Rot N. Rusty's will be marching in the Gold Rush parade (which apparently doesn't start until 3pm, talk about a long day for our volunteers!) and we pass out coupons, thus our numbers on Saturday after the parade are always high.  This year we're having a funeral for our dearly departed, Lance "Fluffy" Oxyer, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the hearse and "walking dead".  If you pay close enough attention - you may just see a glimpse of me!  I'll be decked out in purple/black.  I haven't decided if I'm going to walk the parade or sit on the hearse....hmm decisions decisions.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

WILW

What am I loving this Wednesday?

- I'm loving the smell of TIDE detergent.  I know it's been around forever, but still...I just love the smell of it on our clothes and towels.

- I'm loving every one's happy blog posts lately.  It seems it's the year of Disney and I'm jealous, but in a happy way of course.  I LOVE Disney :)

- I'm loving that we got The Lion King boxset last week of which inside was a copy of the 3D/blu ray of the original movie and it looks UHH-MAZ-ING on our 3D tv!!

- I'm loving that Tim Allen returned to TV this week in a new sit-com.  The premiere was funny and it looks promising.

- I'm loving that HOUSE is finally back even though I was completely asleep during Monday's episode because it was delayed an hour due to baseball - blah baseball!!

- I'm loving that the haunted house is almost over and we'll be able to have some money back.  Driving to/from Dahlonega twice a week has really put a toll on our budget.

- I'm loving that we got a pretty sweet deal from Georgia Natural Gas for 6mos.  We only have gas heat, so there's no need for us to have it on year-round.  We got a guaranteed rate of 0.599/therm for 6mos and 1/2 off the connection fee - YAY!

- I'm still loving our crockpot and only wish I had been using it sooner...sheesh what was I thinking?

Nachos:

1lb ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup green pepper
1 pint taco sauce
1 packet taco seasoning
1 can cream of mushroom
1 can refried beans
2 cups cheddar cheese
lettuce
diced tomatoes
sour cream

Brown beef in saucepan with onion and green pepper, drain.  Combine all ingredients (except lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream) in crock pot and cook on high for 1 hour (or until cheese is melted).

Serve immediately with tortilla chips, lettuce, tomato and sour cream.

Time flies..

Remember when it used to feel like Christmas took forever to get here?  Umm apparently I missed the chapter in the adult handbook that said "When you turn 18, Christmas comes in 6mo intervals".  I swear it just happened, I swear Thanksgiving just happened.  WHERE DID THE TIME GO??

In a little under 4yrs I'll be 30 - WHAT?!?  Anyone else think time is slipping by?

I'm going to take in everything I have in my life and really make an effort to appreciate it for what it is good or bad.  I'm not perfect which is why I can't say I AM period, but I AM going to make the best effort possible and maybe you should do the same if you haven't already.

I decided to go back to basics. I'm a natural brunette and while I do love highlights, I do not love the cost of maintaining them. Sooo, my friend Tabitha picked out the color (it's by Garnier...called Sweet Cola). This was my first time ever dyeing my own hair, but I did it and so far no flaws are noticeable!

What am I loving?

- - I'm loving this fall weather, it seems like you can breathe easier in the fall.

- - I'm loving that our cats have taken to the wet food just fine.  Currently we only feed them a small can of fancy feast when we get home from work.  Our plan is to eventually eliminate 1 dry food meal a day and replace it with a full wet food meal.

- - I'm loving that in 2 months we'll be in the Bahamas soaking up the sun.

- - I'm loving that we had such a successful opening weekend at the haunted house.  It's rewarding to see the all of our fans, new and established.

- - I'm loving that I've made 4 meals in my crockpot the last 3 weeks, it is SO easy.

- - I'm loving that it's October and Hardy and I have officially kicked off our horror-movie-thon.  For the last 4 years, we pick a theme for every week of October with (a particular genre of scary movies) and we watch nothing but related movies.

10/3 - 10/8 "Creature Week"  anything non-human and obviously fictional
10/9 - 10/15 "Zombie Week" we have MORE than enough zombie movies to tide us over for probably an entire month
10/16 - 10/22 "Slasher Week" Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street....etc
10/23 - 10/29 "Vampire/Werewolf Week" while I could technically watch any of the Twilight movies any time, this week is dedicated to the not-no-sparkly vampires.  Bram Stoker's Dracula, Underworld, Van Helsing, The Howling...etc

What are you loving?

Mini update

Pre-sale tickets for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 are now on sale, I am so excited.  So far, the trailers I've seen appear that they're doing the book as much justice possible.  I can only hope that remains true for the rest of the film.

In just two months, Hardy & I will be on-board the Disney Dream.  I have no idea what to expect, except greatness.  I've never been disappointed with anything at Walt Disney World and I can only imagine they provide the same excellent service/features on their cruise ships.

The haunted house opened this weekend, we had almost 300 customers come through in total, that's unbelievable for our first weekend. Generally we are slow and the numbers pick up the further into the season we go.  We even had 3 people wet their pants and one little boy passed out.  I'm happy we've had so much success already and can only hope the numbers continue to grow.  I am exhausted of course, but alive and that's what matters most :)
