I heard this cover on iHeart earlier this week and fell in love with it. Of course I love the original version ("Silver Springs" by Fleetwood Mac). I already like Lykke Li's vocals from a song she had on the Eclipse soundtrack, but when I heard this....whoa. Her voice is so ethereal in a way and composition is dark and mysterious.
Another song I've fallen in love with (reluctantly) is Taylor Swift's "Shake it Off". I've protested her for a long time. Nothing personal, I just haven't found her the most talented singer for the recognition she gets. I don't think she deserved the shun from Kanye that year during the MTV awards, but that didn't mean I had to support her music. Anyway, this song is super catchy and makes me want to....dance.
Now let us move onto yet another Swifty song..."Blank Page"
I also cannot hear "Cool Kids" by Echosmith enough...seriously I blast it as loud as I can when I'm alone in the car (which isn't often.) The context of this song reminds me of the 90's hit "Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm" by Crash Test Dummies. Stories from people not so ordinary and their experience in life because of it. Either way I love her voice...I know there's been some recent arguments that this song promotes the desire to be popular. I don't take it that way. In fact, I think it's a good portrayal of what most preteens/teens feel when they just want to be accepted and fit in and have friends.
**Sidenote, this band are actually all siblings...kinda cool - pun intended.
Here's the video to that Crash Test Dummies tune...
My last mention on this post is "Habits (Stay High)" by Tove Lo. I'm just drawn to the music...don't really care about the lyrics.
